Frank Zapps’s Mothers of Invention finally release their second album, Absolutely Free this week, while Zappa’s buddies in The Monkees finally get their third out. Headquarters is the attempt to be seen as a “real” band, land it will rise – briefly – to the top.
Meanwhile, The Beach Boys falter and seal their own fate, while a pair of brothers from the South try to make their mark in Los Angeles, and do so: But not in the way their record label wants them to.
